GETTING TO KNOW COLLEGE ATHLETE ALEC DESUASIDO

How did you get started in track & field?

Alec: I started track and field in 5th grade because it was the first year we could join sports and my mom, dad, and their siblings all did track and encouraged me try it out. I continued with it because I really I was good and enjoyed it.

What are some of your favorite things about being on the track team?

Alec: My favorite things about being on the track team are the second family it comes with, the competition, and the constant exercise/workouts. I love hanging out my teammates off the track, love competing and winning, and enjoy working out and track let’s me do that with a good group of people.

What is your favorite event?

Alec: My favorite event is the triple jump because its the event I’m best at/rank highest in and it’s an event that takes time to conquer because there’s a lot of technical aspects to it.

What do you like most about that event?

Alec: In triple jump, I like that there’s a specific process for technique and form so not everyone can do it. I like perfecting each step of the form and watching it back.

What advice do you have for high school students looking to be a college athlete?

Alec: My advice for high school students would be to reach out early. The earlier you reach out the more time they know about you and could possibly be tracking you and your times/marks.

What’s the best way for people to watch you competing in track & field?

Alec: The best way for people to watch me compete in track and field is come out to the meets in Orange County/Los Angeles or stay tuned on my Instagram @alecxdes where I post the livestreams for every track meet that’s broadcasted.
